Sangeet Sharda: This Marathi play about child marriage prompted the British government to introduce ‘Sharda Act’ that prevented marrying young girls to old men. The play is directed by Chandrakant Gajanan Dhamnikar. (Sri Ram Centre; 5:30 P.M.)
Maatbring: This Bengali play narrates the story of Mitti and Kanu, who fall in love during a village festival, but Mitti’s mother does not wish to marry her daughter, and wants her to go to town to earn money. Directed by A K M Yusuf Hassan, Maatbring is a fusion of western and eastern styles of theatre with a special focus on singing. The whole narration is presented in the form of Bangladeshi ‘Gaan’ or song. (Kamani; 6:30 P.M.)
